Not advice

Content on After TAX is provided for general informational purposes only and does not constitute tax, legal, accounting or investment advice. Tax outcomes depend on individual facts. Consult a qualified professional before acting.

No practitioner relationship

After TAX is a publication. We are not a tax return preparer, an accounting firm, a law firm or a registered investment adviser, and nothing here is written for your particular situation or may be relied on to avoid penalties. Our calculators apply published rate schedules to the figures you type in; they do not know your facts, and their output is an illustration rather than a computation of tax due.

How we use the figures we publish

Every number in our tables names the document it comes from. Where sources disagree, we say so on the page rather than choose silently. If you find an error, write to the desk: corrections are published, not quietly edited, and the correction notice stays with the story.

Third-party content

We link to and embed content from third parties, including videos hosted on YouTube. We are not responsible for third-party content or privacy practices. A firm or institution listed on this site is listed because we read or cited it, not because it pays us; we take no payment, sponsorship, affiliate commission or referral fee from any firm we cover.

Privacy

If you subscribe to our newsletter we store your email address, the date and the fact of your consent, and use them only to send the newsletter. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe. We do not sell, rent or share personal data, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.

Your rights over your data

Whatever state or country you write from, you may ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, and we will do it without asking you to give a reason and without charging you. California readers have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them; readers in the European Union and the United Kingdom have them under the GDPR. Write to the desk and we will act within thirty days.

How long we keep it

Subscriber addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion, and are removed within thirty days of either. Web server logs are kept for ninety days. We keep no advertising profiles, and we do not track readers across other sites.
